Skin Care Recap

Skin care is so confusing and honestly changes as you age. You will need to focus on different ingredients to target your specific skin care concerns. We wanted to take the opportunity to share with you some of our favorite ingredients and what products to find them in. We covered a lot of this in our social media posts, but if you are like me you need to hear it several times before it sticks.

#1 Sunscreen. Prevention is key when it comes to your face. So important and essential for ALL ages. We love Revision’s intellishade! A lot of these other ingredients can make you more sensitive to the sun so that’s why sunscreen is her ar the top of our list!

#2 Retinol-A great multifunctional tool that is our the first “medical grade” product you should add to your regime. It works to unclog your pores to prevent breakouts. One of the many noteworthy aspects of retinol is that it stimulates skin cell turnover, which is manifested as a sort of "exfoliating" effect. Dull and dry skin sloughs off and makes way for new, brighter, and more even-toned skin, armed with increased levels of collagen and elastin. The thicker skin is stronger, smoother and has fewer overall imperfections. Thus, even relatively "problem-free" skin can have radiating effects from retinol. That’s right I said it works on acne AND wrinkles! If you’ve never used a retinol start slow and work your way up. It can be drying at first. We love Revision’s night cream for a beginner retinol!

#3 Vitamin C- Has so many known great effects for your immune system and wound healing so ovbiously it’s great for your skin! It protects the skin from excessive damage and water loss by stimulating and promoting collagen production in the skin, keeping skin firm and plump from within. It also brightens the complexion by reducing blemishes. Vitamin C fights wrinkles, aging, skin infections, and prevents sun damage.

#4 Kojic’s acid (Koji pads… you know we love them) primary use — and benefit — is to lighten visible sun damage, age spots, or scars. This can result in an anti-aging effect on the skin. In addition to skin-lightening effects, kojic acid also contains some antimicrobial properties. It may help fight off several common bacterial strains even in small dilutions. This can help treat acne caused by bacteria in the skin. It may also lighten scars from acne that haven’t faded yet.

#5 Salisylic Acid- (Availiable in our clarifying pads) and pairs well with our dermaclanse wash for our acne clients. Salicylic acid is lipid soluble so it can penetrate deeper than its water soluble counterparts Meaning it can get deep into your skin to do its job. This quality is precisely what makes it such a potent ingredient for targeting acne — especially for blackheads and whiteheads. Once it penetrates the skin, salicylic acid dissolves skin debris that clogs pores, acts as an anti-inflammatory, and also helps red, inflamed pimples and pustules go away faster,
